- His Majesty's South African Ship Jan van Riebeeck (H.M.S.A.S. Jan van Riebeeck) [Afr: S.M.S.A.S. Jan van Riebeeck, and after 1952, H.M.S.A.S Jan van Riebeeck] was a British W Class Destroyer originally named HMS Wessex, obtained from the British Navy in 1950, with Pennant D278. Wessex was transferred to the South African Navy on 29 March 1950 and renamed Jan van Riebeeck after the Dutch founder of Cape Town Jan van Riebeeck.
